ZENCAR EV Charging Model 2
Portable 240V Level 2 EVSE with NEMA 14-50 plug
The Zencar Model 2 is a 32 amp level 2 charging station or EVSE (electric vehicle supply equipment) with a maximum output of 7.68 kW. This EVSE allows you to charge your EV (electric vehicle) up to 5 times faster than standard 120 volt charging stations supplied with most EV’s. Note, however, that the rate of charge is ultimately determined by your EV’s onboard charger. For example, if your EV has a 6.6 kW charger, then your electric vehicle’s battery will automatically be charged at 6.6 kW even though this EVSE supports a higher rate of charge.
The Zencar Model 2 is solidly constructed in a heavy duty enclosure designed to withstand abuse (see crush test video) that is sealed and weatherproof making it safe for both indoor and outdoor use in dry and wet conditions.
The Zencar Model 2 also has built-in thermal protection that will automatically lower the charge rate or shut off temporarily if the internal circuit board reaches specific temperatures. Typical indoor use will not encounter such temperatures, but this may occur when used outdoors in hot climates. When the temperature drops to a safe level, charging is automatically resumed.
This portable EVSE comes with a NEMA 14-50 plug that requires a NEMA 14-50 receptacle (see photo with NEMA 14-50 caption), which are common in newer homes and RV parks across the United States. Some homes have a NEMA 14-30 or other type of 240 volt receptacle, in which case an additional adapter cord would be required (NEMA 14-30, 10-30, and 5-15 adapters are available for $34 here). On the other end, you will find a SAE J1772 plug, which is compatible with all electric vehicles sold in North America.
